Etymology: he.te.ro.hi.o.chi.i. Gr. masc. adj. heteros, different, other; N.L. n. hiochum, spoiled sake (from Japanese n. hiochi); N.L. gen. neut. n. heterohiochii, probably intended to mean heterofermentative lactobacillus of hiochi (spoiled sake)
